Environmental Report S2:
Discernible Drama Theatre:
Premise:
The premise of the report was to scrutinise the designs environmental credentials both quantitative and aesthetic. My work treated the buildings Façades as their environmental interface and this elicited studies into occupancy patterns and heating loads with respect to time.
The data ascertained from these studies was then influential at the design stage and consequently informed the facades disposition - an indirect solar interface was chosen.
I searched at length into concrete being both Environmentally useful (time lag) and an aesthetic which elicited a series of Concrete Samples Produced which became a rewarding entity of testing material compatibility with the existing palette of Holmfirth.
Mark Received = A (78%)

Green Roof Self Build Collaboration.
Helped design and build a green roof today as part of a the government’s ‘myplace’ local-ism project. Submitted  a design which saw the in-accessible roof serve as a elevated focal point of the building, stimulating curiosity, adventure and the environment as the design encourages nature development horizontally as well as vertically, breaking up the green roof trend of just being horizontal.

Mothers Day card,
Fits in the pocket nicely, doubles up as identification for our wonderful dogs who go missing regularly. The card profiles each dog, so a brief visual description of each dog can be given to anyone quickly should they go missing.

Professional Competence, Fire assessment and practice interview.
Mark = A
The assignment asks us to scrutinise our design project from semester one and make modifications to improve the safety of the design.
Due to the high risk element of the paper (exchange) facades used this elicited a study into how their safety can be improved.
: Modifications were made with reference to BS 99 99 and Approved Document B

Environment and Technology assignment 01 year 03
Mark = 82% - A+ .
The assignment seeks to analyse an old (pre 1975) classroom for visual and thermal comfort. Through scrutiny and calculations (simulations using ECOTECT software) improvements were suggested to improve the occupants relationship with their environment and hence improve their relationship with their learning environment.
I was conscientious to offer retrofits which would be cheaper for the client through a series of quick and easy modifications to improve comfort both visually and thermally. Furthermore the suggested modification improved the flexibility of the space; potentially drawing in night classes an alternative source of income for the client.

Community Library
Pages from preliminary portfolio submission,
A brief holistic narrative:
“different episodes of interaction - a more public scale for passers by, and more intimate scales and experiences when interaction with the built form occurs.
This accumulated in my decision to grant access to the community space only first by experiencing the literature space, this became a cannon for an architectural journey where the experience elicits plays on ‘light and dark’, ‘rough and smooth’ and the fusion of materials with natural light, taking us to an exclusive enclosed community space for reconciliation and celebration.

The zenith of this journey exploits an elegant bridge protected by an augmented roof form, which fuses literature and community spaces - the notion of a journey is reflected in the built form.
I searched deeper into the literature agenda of the library and nurtured an idea of exchange; knowledge is exchanged or disseminated through: magazines, articles, notes, poetry and booksfor example. This un-biased medium (exchange) requires an exposure for any dissemination to occur, hence the design began to develop public exchanges (the paper (tyvek) facades of the building) and much more intimate and personal exchanges as reader becomes involved with the building, specifically within the walls where memories ferment and are stored.”
